Ha! (Humorous Arts), a magazine devoted to humour, satire and comedy ran for little over a year from 1994 to 1995.
Distributed to independent newsagents around London and to a small mailing list, the magazine achieved a sale rate of 40%. This attracted the attention of two major magazine publishers in the UK who both gave serious thought to launching the magazine in the mainstream market. In both cases, fears about the difficulty of attracting advertisers ended discussions.
This was during the absence of both Punch (prior to Mohamed Al Fayed’s ill-fated rescue attempt) and the recently defunct UK edition of Mad Magazine.
Indeed, Ha! seemed destined to combine the influences from both these publications with its own original mix of irreverence, cartoons and humorous reviews to produce a totally original and fresh-looking humour magazine.
A couple of short-lived attempts to continue Ha! on the internet endured until 1997 when the contributors decided that they really ought to be earning a living.
This blog is a portal to the new resurrection of Ha! Here you will be able to enjoy all the old stuff that used to be printed on paper as well as look forward to brand new stories, features and cartoons as and when they occur.
